Surgery wound healing - achilles

I severed my Achilles tendon playing recreational football and had surgery five days later to reconnect the tendon. Prior to the surgery I was told by the surgeon that I would lose some mobility and flexibility in the injured ankle, and that I would also lose some running speed.

When the surgery was completed I was in a cast from toe to just below my knee and I had to use crutches. The total time I was in a cast was five weeks, the last three weeks in a walking cast. I was told by the orthopedic surgeon that the rate of healing was phenomenal and that I would not require any Physiotherapy. This was nice to hear after a therapist told me I would not be able to do any activity at all for three months, and would be starting my rehab at this point.

It has only been two months and I am riding my mountain bike for over hour rides, doing calf raises, and walking without any limp. I was in very good condition at the time of the accident, so the combination of good conditioning and high doses of RECOVERY made for the quick healing process. I feel I will be running on a treadmill within two weeks, and I plan to play football in Nov/2003 in the Provincial Championships for topflight Flag Football.
